Let's get one thing straight: Salted Caramel Apple Rum is not a dessert spirit.
Yes, it's sweet. Yes, it's indulgent. But at 47% ABV with a proper Caribbean rum base, this is a full-strength spirit with range — it can anchor a cocktail, complement a long drink, or hold its own neat over ice. The salted caramel adds depth. The apple cuts through with freshness. The sea salt keeps it from ever tipping into cloying.
Here are five ways to drink it — from effortless to impressive.
1. The Simplest Serve: Lemonade & Apple Juice
The everyday go-to.
- 50ml Salted Caramel Apple Rum
- 75ml cloudy apple juice
- 75ml good lemonade
- Ice, apple slice to garnish
Pour the rum over ice. Add the apple juice, then the lemonade. Stir once. Done. This is the serve that converts people who "don't really like rum."
2. The Showstopper: Salted Caramel Espresso Martini
The one that gets requests.
- 50ml Salted Caramel Apple Rum
- 30ml freshly pulled espresso (cooled)
- 15ml coffee liqueur
- 5ml salted caramel sauce
- Ice
Shake everything together with plenty of ice for 20 seconds. Double-strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a drizzle of caramel and a pinch of flaked sea salt.
The caramel in the rum amplifies the coffee in a way vanilla vodka never could. This is the cocktail that replaces your usual order.
3. The Autumn Serve: Spiced Apple Hot Toddy
For when it gets dark at 4pm.
- 50ml Salted Caramel Apple Rum
- 150ml hot pressed apple juice (not from concentrate)
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Slice of lemon
Heat the apple juice (don't boil). Add rum and honey, stir. Drop in the cinnamon stick. Squeeze the lemon slice over the top and drop it in. Wrap both hands around the glass.
This is the drink that makes October worth it.
4. The Brunch Serve: Salted Caramel Apple Spritz
Light, fizzy, and completely acceptable at noon.
- 40ml Salted Caramel Apple Rum
- 60ml Prosecco
- 30ml cloudy apple juice
- Splash of soda
- Ice, thin apple slice to garnish
Build over ice in a large wine glass. Add the rum, then apple juice, then Prosecco. Top with soda. Do not stir — let the bubbles do the work.
5. Neat, Over Ice
For when you just want to taste it.
A 35ml pour. One large ice cube. That's it.
The first sip hits with caramel warmth. The apple comes through mid-palate, bright and clean. The sea salt lifts the finish and keeps it interesting for longer than you'd expect. The oak notes from the Caribbean base round everything out.
This is the serve that makes you understand why we exist.
The Rum Behind These Serves
State of Rum's Salted Caramel Apple Rum is hand-crafted in small batches in Cambridgeshire. We use a blend of Caribbean rums aged in ex-bourbon casks as the base, then infuse naturally with caramel, apple, and sea salt — no artificial flavouring, no shortcuts.
